BOOK REVIEW- Reft by Libby Austin

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. ~
Newton’s Third Law of Motion

Brandon “Brand” Carmichael’s life was the stuff dreams were made of…too bad it was an illusion. As a guitarist for Inert Motion, Brand traveled the world, performing with his brothers in all but blood. He never stopped moving all the while his mind played in a never ending loop. Now outside influences have changed the band’s course, leaving Brand’s life void of the BALANCE he craved. Once again, his dream had become a recurring nightmare. Brand coped the only way he knew how; retreat into solitude.

Magdalena “Layna” Delacroix had achieved the long sought goal of her Ph.D. IN PSYCHOLOGY, but success came at a high cost: over one hundred thousand dollars in debt. After being presented with the opportunity to fulfill her desire to help someone in the aftermath of tragedy, along with earning enough money to clear her debt and start a psychology practice of her own, Layna had to balance the means against the outcome. Could she be the force to stop the downward spiral of someone who refused to seek help?

Neither Brand nor Layna expected the reaction they had to one another. It was the opposite of everything they sought.

Could Layna live a lie while pushing Brand to live in the truth?

Would Brand forgive her for committing one unforgivable sin?

Or was he branded by destiny to be...

My Review

This book is one of those books that you stumble upon- not knowing how it was going to be, so you just take a chance on it.  And in this instance, I am so glad that I chose this book. It kept me immersed in the pages and I didn't want it to end.

Brand is a very diverse character in my opinion. I didn't know what to think of him. Or how to take him and that's not typically the norm for me. I can usually pinpoint what I *think* is going on with the main character but Libby went above and beyond to make sure you never figure out the pieces to Brands puzzle until THAT moment. The big one where you gasp out loud because you weren't really expecting the events that come. Brand has definitely been through a lot and he continuously made my heart bleed for him.

Layna is smart and beautiful and exactly what Brand needs in his life. She is just a very fun character and I loved seeing her and Brand slowly start to fall for each other but, yes there's a but, Layna is not without fault. She has secrets of her own. And this is about the time the secrets of them both start unfolding and once they do, you cannot look away.

I think that this was a truly fantastic book. It had just enough mystery and just enough angst to keep you on your toes, all the while you get to see this amazing love blossom. I definitely recommend it.
