Off Sides by Sawyer Bennett - Review

“I'm not sure what possessed me to do it. Maybe it was the impossible expectations I faced, maybe it was my own self-loathing. But I just knew I needed something different to happen. I needed someone... something... to derail me from my currtoent path. Otherwise, I would become lost... a hollowed out shell of a man. So I did it. I approached her, then I pursued her, then I made her mine. And my life was saved...”

Ryan Burnham is the privileged son of a U.S. Congressman and captain of his university’s hockey team. While he is on the verge of fulfilling his dreams to play in the NHL, his parents want him on a different course. One he is expected to accept for the sake of his family’s public image.

Forced her to abandon her music career after the heart breaking death of her parents, Danny Cross exists on the opposite side of the tracks from Ryan. She is struggling to make her own way, working two jobs, attending college part time and volunteering in a homeless shelter. She is on a mission to build her own success.

With a chance meeting, their vastly different worlds collide, causing each to evaluate whether they are truly on the correct path to self-fulfillment and happiness. Can their relationship survive? Particularly when others are against them every step of the way. A lot can happen in just ten short days.

Sav's Review

I started this  book without reading the synopsis or checking it out. I find that I really enjoy the element of surprise. After reading a previous series of Sawyer Bennett's I went in expecting a really hot, alpha hockey player and I was way off base. What I got was so much more....

Ryan was born into money. Political parents, spoiled friends, and only running in circles with other rich kids. The thing is, Ryan was so much more. He didn't want the lifestyle of the rich and famous, he just wanted to do what he loved. And that was play professional hockey.

One night while out with his friends, they go into a little diner. His friends spend their time chatting while he plays on his phone. His ex, a spoiled rich kid starts by making fun of their waitress and what she didn't expect was the waitress to put her in her place. In that moment when Ryan looked up, he was instantly attracted to the beautiful Danny.

The problem was, Danny was not from his circle. She had purple hair, and a lip ring and waited tables but that didn't stop Ryan from instantly having the urge to get to know her better.

Ryan and Danny embark on the this new journey of love together. No matter who agrees or who talks about them.

This book is really fast paced. If you dislike "insta" love then you probably won't care much about this book. I found it to be a breath of fresh air in this world with so many alphas, to just read about such a sweet love story of two people who will do anything for the person that they love.

It does have drama and angst. It's not overly done or underly done. It was just perfect for this storyline and I highly recommend this book and can't wait to start the next in the series. I give this book 4 stars
