Blurb:
He's a High-Octane Special Ops Pro

When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is chosen for an assignment with the Department of Covert Operations, he's stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, never mind take down a terrorist.

She's No Kitten

Ivy Halliwell isn't your average covert op. She's a feline shifter, and more dangerous than she looks. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She's worked with a string of hotheaded military guys who've underestimated her special skills in the past. But when she's partnered with special agent Donovan, a man sexy enough to make any girl purr, things begin to heat up. He doesn't think she's a freak-and he's smokin' hot. Soon they're facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines...and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.

Excerpt:
Landon expected Todd and Kendra to take him to another conference room, so he was surprised when they led him into what looked like a workout room. Mats covered the floor and a heavy bag hung from a hook in one corner. Weights and workout equipment filled a good portion of the room. A woman was seated cross-legged in the center of it, her eyes closed, her hands loosely resting on her knees. At their entrance, she gracefully uncurled herself from the floor and got to her feet.

She was wearing a pair of black workout pants like his ex-girlfriend used to wear when she went to yoga class, and a form-fitting tank top. He couldn’t help but notice her curvy, athletic body, expressive dark eyes, and full lips. With little makeup and her long, dark hair pulled up in a
ponytail, she looked like the girl next door. Only more exotic than any girl he’d ever lived next door to, that was for sure.

He didn’t care how tired and irritated he was, this was a woman he definitely wouldn’t mind stopping to appreciate. Hopefully, one of his new training officers would introduce them before she left to give them the room.

“Landon, meet Ivy Halliwell, your new partner,” Kendra said. “Ivy, Captain Landon Donovan, Special Forces.”

They were going to have to pick his jaw up off the floor because Landon was damn sure that’s where it was after hearing that announcement. No way this walking wet dream was his partner. She looked like she
couldn’t hurt a fly, much less do any kind of covert ops. They had to be messing with him.

“Your first mission is to put her on her ass,” Todd said.

He’d had some big what-the-hell moments in his life—most of them within the past twenty-four hours—but this had to be the biggest.

Landon narrowed his eyes at the man. “Excuse me?”

“Take her down.”

Was this guy serious? This was his new partner and they wanted him to kick her ass? Ivy was about half his size and looked like she should be walking down a fashion runway somewhere, not trading blows with a trained combat killer.

Landon shook his head. “Forget it. I’m not going to take a swing at her, much less put her on her ass.” He folded his arms across his chest. “You want entertainment? Maybe I should put you on your ass.”

Kendra must have thought that was funny because she hid a smile behind her clipboard.

Ivy wasn’t so subtle. She laughed outright. And damn if it didn’t have a sexy sound to it.

“That’s chivalrous of you, Donovan,” she said. “You putting Todd on his ass is something I’d like to see, but he isn’t going to let us leave this room until you learn the lesson you’re here to learn. So, let’s get this over with.”

She didn’t wait for a reply, but instead slowly circled around Landon on her bare feet. He instinctively turned to follow her. She moved with the sure-footed grace of a cat, making him think she was probably well-trained in one or more martial arts.

“Well?” she demanded.

He assessed her stance. “You’re not ready.”

Ivy rolled her eyes. “Tell you what. I’ll make it easier on you. I’ll hit you first. How’s that sound?”

“That implies I’d let you hit me.”

She shrugged her slim shoulders. “Oh, I’ll hit you all right.”

He laughed, but the sound was cut short as she twisted in a blur and her leg came around in a spinning heel kick that would have taken off his head if he hadn’t backed away just in time.

“Shit,” he muttered. He was way too tired for this crap. “Stop screwing around, okay? That kick would have done some damage if you landed it.”

Ivy didn’t heed his warning, though. Instead, she immediately followed up with the same kind of a kick, this time in the other direction. Landon quickly backpedaled to avoid her foot, only to smack against the wall. He dropped to one knee, instinctively thrusting out with his hands to
both knock her away from him and put some space between them. But instead of falling back, she moved out of the way, avoiding his hands. For a moment he didn’t realize what she’d done. Then it struck him. She’d darted sideways while she was in mid-kick. That shouldn’t even be
physically possible.

Ivy landed lightly on her feet, a smile curving her lips. “I knew I could get you to take a shot at me, even if it was lame. Then again, I didn’t expect much from another oversized grunt like you. I don’t know why they keep pairing me up with guys like you all the time. Can’t they find anyone with a brain?”

Landon rose from his crouch and moved to the center of the room. When she came at him again, he didn’t want a wall getting in his way.

“Guys like me? You’re trying to insult me now? Think that’s going to get me to take a punch at you? What are you, a masochist?”

Her smile broadened. “I already got you to do that. And I’d only be a masochist if you ever got your
hands on me.”

He snorted. “Lady, that wasn’t a punch. You’d know it if I wanted to hit you.”

“All talk and no action,” she scoffed. “Isn’t that the Special Forces motto or something?”

Landon knew what she was trying to do and it wasn’t going to work. She must have figured it out, too. She gave up on the verbal jabs and resorted to real ones, coupled with those damn spinning roundhouse kicks again.

He stripped off his camo overshirt and threw it across the room, so he could get down to serious business.

He blocked most of her strikes with his hands and the others with his shoulders, biceps, and thighs. He sure as hell felt them, but he got the feeling she wasn’t hitting him nearly as hard as she could.

His plan was to lure her in close enough to get his hands on her. That way, he could put her down without being forced to throw a serious punch. She might be agile as hell, but if he connected with anything real, he’d break something. His best bet was to get his hands on her and
pin her to the floor so he could end this stupid game.

That was easier than it sounded. Ivy was faster than lightning and could twist her body into a pretzel to get out of his grasp. He had her in a perfect jujitsu take-down position several times only to have her spoil it by not going down like she should have. He even planted his knee in
her stomach and yanked her backward with him in a throw that should have landed her hard on her back, groaning in pain. Instead, she turned the move into some kind of gymnastic flip and came down as softly on her feet as if she stepped off a street curb.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the two training officers taking notes as they watched. Kendra was actually smiling. Landon clenched his jaw. What a couple of asses.

On the other side of the room, Ivy spun around to face him. Eyes narrowing, she ran directly toward him. He automatically braced himself for another blow, but at the last second she darted to her right, jumping at the wall and rebounding off it like she was an extra in some Jackie
Chan movie, then ricocheting back at him, her right leg coming around in a roundhouse kick.

Instead of getting out of the way like any sane person would have, he moved closer, getting underneath her swinging leg and grabbing her shoulders. He avoided her foot, but ended up taking a knee to the left side of his rib cage. It hurt, but it got him inside her defenses. He was
going to get a grip on her, and this time she wasn’t going to get away.

That’s when he realized her kick had only been a distraction. He’d been so busy watching her feet he hadn’t even noticed her open hand coming toward him. He did a double take. She was going to slap him? His mind registered surprise for half a millisecond before her hand angled down to sweep across the front of his T-shirt.

Landon felt the fabric tug and swore he heard a ripping sound. He even felt a sting. But he ignored it. Tightening his grip on her shoulders, he spun them both around, letting the momentum from her rebound take them down to the floor.

He twisted at the last second, taking the impact of the floor on his right shoulder before yanking her to his chest in a bear hug. If he’d been trying to kill her, he would have crushed a hell of a lot harder. Instead he squeezed just enough to let her know he could hurt her if he wanted to.

They came to a stop with him on his back, Ivy pinned to his chest. She didn’t fight him, simply laid there with her face close to his neck, breathing deeply. Landon couldn’t help but notice how soft her body was against his, and how nice it felt to have her on top of him.

His cock noticed, too.

Shit. This was going to be embarrassing.

“Okay, you two,” Todd said. “I think we’ve gotten everything out of this demonstration I intended.”

It took a moment for the words to register—probably because all the blood had left his head to rush to another part of his anatomy. Landon reluctantly loosened his hold on Ivy. He waited for her to get up, but she stayed firmly planted on top of him, which alarmed him. He thought

she would have jumped up the moment he released her. God, he hoped he hadn’t hurt her with that take down.

He gently tilted her chin up with his fingers. “Hey. You okay?”

Ivy blinked at him, her beautiful eyes filled with something that looked almost like wonder. Then she gave herself a little shake. “I-I’m good. You?”

“Yeah. Fine.”

“Good.”

She gazed at him for a moment longer, then quickly pushed to her feet. She crossed the room to slip on a pair of flip-flops she had left there. When she turned back to him, her face was the perfect mask of composure he’d seen when he first walked in.

“No hard feelings, I hope?” she said as he stood. “That’s just the way the DCO likes to introduce me to my new partners. I don’t know why.”

He knew why. The DCO realized the fastest way to get a man to appreciate the talents of his female partner was to have her kick his ass. At least she hadn’t done it to him.

“Not at all,” he said. “I suppose we can call this match a tie.”

Her lips curved. “You think so?”

Reaching out, she flicked his shirt with her fingers, then turned and walked away.

Remembering the bizarre open-handed swipe she’d given him across the chest, he looked down to see four diagonal tears in his T-shirt. He pushed the material aside, frowning when he found four identical scratches on his chest. If he didn’t know better, he’d think he got scratched
by a cat—a big cat. They weren’t deep or bleeding, but there was no mistaking what had made them—fingernails. Ivy’s fingernails. Not exactly standard-issue hand-to-hand combat technique. He got the feeling nothing about this place was standard issue. Especially his new partner.

Review of Hard Time by Cara McKenna

Synopsis:

In this all-new novel from the author of Unbound, a woman with a rocky past finds romance in the last place she’d ever expect...

Annie Goodhouse doesn’t need to be warned about bad boys; good sense and an abusive ex have given her plenty of reasons to play it safe. But when she steps into her new role as outreach librarian for Cousins Correctional Facility, no amount of good sense can keep her mind—or eyes—off inmate Eric Collier.

Eric doesn’t claim to be innocent of the crime that landed him in prison. In fact, he’d do it again if that’s what it took to keep his family safe. Loyalty and force are what he knows. But meeting Annie makes him want to know more.

When Eric begins courting Annie through letters, they embark on a reckless, secret romance—a forbidden fantasy that neither imagines could ever be real…until early parole for Eric changes everything, and forces them both to face a past they can’t forget, and a desire they can’t deny.

Leia’s Review:

You know how sometimes, you find a book and read the blurb and you just have to have it? And you think you have it all figured out – you know the kind of feelings it’s going to bring out in you. You know it’s going to just be a certain way….

Yeah – that didn’t happen with Hard Time. I just knew this was going to be an overly aggressive, too hot to trot, alpha male forbidden romance…..

And you know what they say about assuming….so there’s that.

Annie is a librarian, born and raised in South Carolina. Now as a fellow South Carolinian, I completely understand the way she was brought up. And becoming an outreach librarian for a correctional facility nixes every rule she has ever been taught….

“The rules were forwarded to me in an email. No makeup. No perfume. No jewelry. That brought a frown to my lips. Having been raised in the South, the request felt about as civilized as being asked if I could please shave my head bald. Where I’m from, a woman won’t flee a burning building in the dead of night before at least putting on some mascara and a pair of pearl studs.”

But, it is through this outreach program where she come into contact with prisoner 802267, Eric Collier. Eric has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a crime that, by his own admission, he would commit again given the chance. His appearance is rough and hard.
Shortly after starting the outreach program, Eric approaches Annie to have her help him with his writing, opening the doors to a fantasy romance that they both crave.

Through letters, they are able to communicate with each other privately, secretly. They develop a fierce connection quickly – and you watch it unfold word for word. Eric writes words of romance and expresses such tender thoughts towards Annie, that it had me falling in love with him in an instant.

“Everything’s so hard in here. And mean and ugly and loud. I know you want to hear dark things, but what I say about the romantic stuff I want to do with you, I want that so bad I can’t tell you. I want to be in a room with you, so quiet I can hear your breathing and your heart. A place so clean I could smell your skin. And with candles, all yellow and soft after the bright white lights they use in here. I want to be with you someplace that’s nothing like my cell. Someplace big and open, with a giant mattress a foot thick and the softest sheets. Someplace cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In a huge bathtub. On the grass somewhere. I want feminine things, because that’s what I miss. Because in here, everything feels hard and sharp and bright. I want to escape and go someplace dark and soft and quiet. I want to escape inside you.”

Annie has been hurt. Her past relationship left her weary of men – of trust anyone really. But this….thing… with Eric, it’s safe. Because it will never come to fruition. He’s locked away on the inside, damning any chance they would ever have at a real relationship – which provides her the confidence she needs to express her deepest desires that she has kept hidden for years.

“I want to make you feel a hundred things at once—powerless and aggressive, needy and pushy, grateful and greedy. Everything a man can feel with a woman.”

However, when Eric is granted parole, the fantasy is shattered. This romance becomes a living, breathing thing that will exists beyond the cement walls of Cousins Correctional Facility. Annie’s “safe bubble” is burst wide open and she has to make a decision on whether or not she can continue to have any kind of relationship with a convicted felon.

This book was so beyond the realm of what I expected. It was soft and sweet….almost innocent at times. But, then again, the thoughts and dreams that Eric and Annie shared with each other had me squirming in my seat. I was pleasantly surprised to discover all that was Eric Collier. Word by word, line by line I fell in love with Eric and Annie and their story. It was exactly what I didn’t know I wanted.

Leia’s Review:

I read.

A lot.

Like, a lot, a lot.

Reading is a beautiful escape for me. I can leave reality for a little while and join the fictional world of all of my lovely characters. It’s a wonderful thing. Really.

And then Jessica Park comes in with her deliciously different stories and full of life characters and takes away my fictional escape.

These stories, these characters, these places….they ARE reality. Her books are effortlessly transport me to another place. I can smell the ocean. I can feel the cold biting winds during the winter storms. I hear the laughter from Sabin. I’m holding a sea urchin.

This is a story of surviving struggle. Breathing through pain. Mending broken bridges. Falling in love. Finding your place in a world you don’t feel like you belong in.

The amazing thing is, it’s not just a story about Blythe and Christopher. It’s about Eric, Estelle, James, Zach, and Sabin too. You don’t just fall in love once – you fall in love over and over again with each and every one of these people!

Now, it must be said that the infamous 70% mark is…..brutal.
It. Will. Gut. You.
I had to pause from the book to rummage through my fridge for a few bottles of wine and hunt down some tissues to wipe the disgusting snotty mess from my face in order to keep reading. But it was worth it. Oh it was so worth it. (But just so you know – read this part in private….no one needs to see the mess that you will become when Jessica Park rips your heart to shreds.)

Don’t worry, my lovelies….this does have a happy ending. Your heartbreak is temporary.

I don’t even know what more to say about this book. The flow of this books was so wonderful. The story was gripping. The characters were flawed to perfection. It was epic. It was a piece of art.

Jessica Park, here’s to you! I bow to you! You have my undying devotion as a fan. I’ve known this since the second I finished reading Flat-Out Love, and it was only reconfirmed and solidified through the indescribable journey that was Left Drowning. Cheers, lady!

Review of Out of Breath by Rebecca Donovan

Synopsis:

She is broken, and the only way that she’ll be whole again is through forgiveness. Emma must find a way to forgive herself and recognize her own worth before she can receive the love she deserves. This final installment will have readers holding their breath until the very last page

Leia’s Review:

Rebecca Donovan, you owe me a manicure!!!

This was literally nail biting.

I have waited for this book for a little over a year. It’s probably one of my most anticipated books….EVER. I was terrified going into it that it may not live up to hype that I had built up for it.

I was wrong.

This book ripped my heart out, shattered it, and put it back together again. It’s taken me over 12 hours to process it just so I can write a review.

This book starts out 2 years after the end of Barely Breathing. Emma is a different person than she was during Reason to Breathe and Barely Breathing. I am going to be honest, she was dark. Really dark. And I was angry with her for the first half of the book. I was angry at the person she had let herself become, angry with the choices she made and angry at the fact she let so many people dictate her life when she had always been so much stronger than that.

And then we had probably the most tragic moment of this book – and I was still angry at Emma. Just pissed at what she had allowed to happen to herself. But then she receives something that completely shatters her. And I was wrecked with sobs. I felther pain. It was real. I could physically feel the blow she had taken. I felt guilty for ever being angry at her because I realized she had no way to cope with the disasters that had happened in her life.

Evan and Sara keep trying to pull her out from the dark place that she has succumbed to. When Evan finds a way to help her release her pain in a healthy way – I sagged with relief. It was a weight lifted from me. But there was still so much guilt and pain in her.

Evan is a new person in this book – I fell hopelessly in love with him in Reason to Breathe – it was impossible not to. The man he became in Out of Breath was….I just can’t put in to words how much I loved him.
He was stronger. He was determined. He was vigilant.

Their relationship developed so well throughout this book. The connection that they made was electric. They always had something special, and I loved that. But it was always overshadowed by secrets and lies and one person trying to protect the other. Finally accepting that neither of them can do that they are able to move forward, and while they don’t want to “relive” the past…they both understand that they have to “revisit” it so that they can grow together.

I can honestly say that I don’t think I have ever been more emotionally invested in characters like I was with the characters in this series. Even the secondary characters, like Sara. The emotion that Rebecca Donovan was able to convey to us from the first line in Reason to Breathe to the last line of Out of Breath was so real and raw. I screamed, I cried, I laughed and I healed.

This book was the perfect ending to this unbelievable series. I couldn’t have asked for more (well, I could – because I can never get enough Evan).

Thank you, Mrs. Donovan for solidifying all the reasons I love to read.

Review of RAW by Belle Aurora

Synopsis
Growing up the way I did, you’d think I’d be more screwed up than what I actually am.
Soon as I turned sixteen, I left that bump in the road I called home and took my chances on the street.
Best decision I ever made.
Now, at the age of twenty six, I’m educated, employed and damn good at my job.
My friends have become my family. Like me, they know what it’s like to grow up unloved.
But the saying is true.
The world makes way for those who know where they are going.
That’s me.
I know where I’m going and I’ll get there eventually. On my own terms and at my own pace.
But then there’s him.
I feel his eyes on me. I see him hiding in plain sight. He watches me.
He makes me feel.
It’s unconventional.
But it’s real.
I’m sure you’re wondering how a person falls in love with their stalker.
So am I.
This isn’t a story.
This is my life.

Leia's Review:

“Not everyone can be a fairy-tale hero.” He pauses a moment, then adds,“The world needs villains too.”

Let’s be honest.
We’ve all been warned that this isn’t a love story with a ”Happily Ever After”.
There are no rainbows and butterflies at the end of this story.
It’s honest. It’s real. It’s RAW.

I’m not sure what I was expecting when I picked up RAW but it definitely far surpassed any expectations that I had.

I don’t even know how to begin reviewing this book for several reasons.

1. This book was so intense that I have been in a 2 week book hangover
2. Every time I go to write my review and I look back at my highlights, I become and emotional disaster all over again.
3. I am in fear of giving too much away and ruining this amazing journey for those of you who haven’t read it.

So, I have decided that unlike most of my reviews, I am not going to go into the plot at all. This story needs to be unfolded page by page. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT CAVE and read spoilers. I promise you will regret it.

I will tell you – these characters are amazing. Each and every one of them is flawed to perfection. Lexi is strong, despite the circumstances that the world brought her into. And Twitch – well, he’s beyond damaged. Facing the world with no hope and a gut full of revenge seeking demons, he has to accept the fact that sometimes, life hands you something so beautiful and untainted – and it’s not a curse or a trick…..it’s a gift.

"Suddenly frowning, he states, “I’m not a good person.” Leaning away from me, he adds, “You think a person like me deserves your type of goodness? No. I’ll tell you right now that I don’t.” Seeming frustrated with himself, he bites his thumbnail. “The thing is, I’m selfish. And I don’t give a fuck about what I deserve. All I care about is what I want. And I want you so fuckin’ bad that I’d do almost anything to keep you.'"

This story is filled with so much……gusto. I can’t even verbalize some of the feelings that I was put through while reading it.
It truly opens your eyes to so much of life that we tend to overlook. So much of the gritty, dirty and raw events in life that we tend to gloss over are brought to light in a way that you can’t ignore them. You face them. Head-on.

"'Do not fucking label me.” His fists ball by his sides as he extends his parting words. “Think on this, girl.” Spinning around, his eyes – full of fury – meet mine. “Who were you before people started telling you who you should be?'"

So many people have been running wild begging for a second book because of the way RAW ends. However, I must be in the minority.
Not that I wouldn't devour another book about Twitch and Lexi – but the ending left me…..content.
I was an emotional wreck, granted. But still – we were warned from the beginning that this isn't a typical love story.

It’s been said that it’s a story of love gone wrong.

But I tend to disagree with that as well – because to me, Twitch and Lexi’s love is so right. It’s love beyond circumstance and justice. It’s love that transcends everyday judgments and past wrongs. It’s pure love in its truest form. It is unconditional and heart wrenching.
It’s RAW, but it’s beautiful.

Review of Collaboration by Michelle Lynn & Nevaeh Lee

Synopsis

This is not your typical rock star romance. For one, the “rock star” is a rapper. And not just any rapper. Trace is the hottest ticket in the music industry right now, regardless of which definition of ‘hot’ you choose. Taryn Starr is not the girl-next-door who unknowingly meets a celebrity. Known as “America’s Sweetheart,” the reigning country music princess and world-renowned superstar knows exactly who Trace is…or does she? Their worlds collide when the musicians whose paths were never destined to cross are forced by their joint record label to collaborate on a song. The sparks fly and ignite a fire that blazes hotter with every minute they spend together—for better or worse. One thing’s for certain, the two media magnets can’t deny their explosive chemistry, but will life in the spotlight ultimately bring Trace and Taryn together or force them apart?

 Leia's Review:

Collaboration was such a different story! The romance between a rap star and a country singer was something that I haven’t read about before.

I was intrigued from the first page and it held my attention throughout the whole book. I love that the authors didn’t paint the superstar lifestyle as one glammed out party. We see that so much and it was refreshing to read about the hard work and dedication that these artists put into their work. It’s not all one big party. It is a lot of hard work and sacrifice that often gets overshadowed by the glamorous lifestyles shown in the media.

This book also focuses on the sacrifices that Trace and Taryn make to be who they are expected to be. Forced by their label to collaborate on a song, they quickly begin to see the they aren’t the people the media has made them out to be. Spending time together opens their eyes to the fact that they have more in common with each other than they first thought.

Building their relationship through phone calls, text messages and short visits means that the foundation they are laying is built on trust and common interests. I’m not saying that it is a rainbows and butterflies – fighting against the media, Taryn’s money hungry mother and Trace’s reputation cause bumps in the road along the way. Not to mention, both Trace and Taryn have things about their past that they want to keep secret.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It wasn’t deeply emotional or overly erotic – it just was what it was. Trace and Taryn, together, overcome obstacle after obstacle cementing their untraditional relationship in love and trust. It was a great story with a fantastic ending!
