"He was right. It made no difference whether it was 6 months or 6 years.
I couldn’t undo what had been done. I couldn’t change the future.
I couldn’t even predict it.It was one night. One night when everything changed. It was so much more than just the betrayal. It was the Tragedy. The Deaths. The Murders. But it was also that feeling. The feeling of falling. "
Well then.
Just go ahead and blow my socks off Mrs. McLean!
I started More Than This on a whim. I was in-between books and needed a cutesy story to tie me over.
What I got was so much more…
This is the story of Mikayla. And bless her heart if Mikayla does catch her boyfriend and best friend together on prom night….in the bathroom…..at the restaurant….where they are all having dinner……together….
Yeah, so her boyfriend is a piece of shit and her best friend is pretty much a slutbag. Awesome.
However, it just so happens that Jake Andrews was there. He sees everything. And being the amazing, delicious, absolutely perfect guy he is, he decides to save her from herself and her embarrassment. So – Mikayla joins Jake and his friends for prom. And has the best night of her life.
Until…..
Out of nowhere, BAM! Jay McLean turns you from a giggling, sappy, swoony schoolgirl to a sobbing disaster. I’m talking tears pouring and snot inducing sobs. It’s not pretty.
Mikayla’s world is ripped from right underneath her. Just shattered. And luckily, Jake is there to help her pick up the pieces.
This book does have a bit of insta-love to it….which normally, I can’t stand. I avoid insta-love like the plague. But it doesn’t feel fake or forced in this book. I completely get how Jake and Mikayla fall so fast for each other. I mean – when you see someone at their worst and you help them deal with that, it bonds you quickly. And powerfully.
“He’s not the hearts and flowers kind of guy, but he’s the heart and soul kind, and fuck if every girl would rather that than flowers.”
This book is powerful. It’s moving. It’s about growing and living in the face of unexplainable grief. Everyone has lost someone or something in their lives – so the empathy that you feel for Mikayla is real. And Jake. Oh Jake. Jake is just a freaking good guy. Even before he falls in love with Mikayla….you can tell. He does these things for her because he is honestly just a good person.
But Mikayla is broken. And she can’t just give “part” of herself to Jake. He deserves it all. And after everything that she’s been through, how could she possibly be whole again?
Mrs. McLean completely blew me away. I was not expecting this at all. It was so much more. So so much more.
I am so thankful that I took the time to read this amazing story! And I cannot WAIT for More Than Her (Book 2) – don’t worry, my dears – More Than This does NOT end on a cliffy….so, read on!!!
4.5 Brilliant Stars!!!
