I have never been disappointed when reading a M. Leighton so I had big expectations for this book. Once again I was not disappointed! This book had a great story that kept me interested the whole time. There were some twists and turns that I didn’t expect and some that I hope for.

In the first chapter of the book you meet Jasper who witnesses a horrific crime that forever changed him. I thought it would make him maybe a little more compassionate. However I was wrong. It turned him into a closed off person who describes himself as a monster. He feels like he’s not capable of loving someone. What does Jasper do? Well he finds people even people who don’t want to be found. Now enter Muse. She needs someone found. Her father checks in with her every month at a specific time. This month he didn’t call and Muse knows something is wrong. Her friend hooks her up with Jasper since he is the best at what he does.

The attraction between them is strong and both continue to fight it. But sometimes attraction and fate are just too hard to fight against. Jasper doesn’t want to love anyone since he’s not capable of love and Muse just wants to find love. She believes Jasper is capable of love and loves him and accepts him for who he is. She begins to break down the walls he has built and when they come crashing down neither of them will ever be the same.

I loved following these two during their story. I loved Jasper from the moment I started the book and Muse is easy to love. She is perfect for Jasper and strong in her own way. I can’t wait for this series to continue because the other characters that came into the story intrigued me. I am anxious to see how their stories turn out and if they will find the kind of love that Jasper found with Muse.

He pulls onto a dirt road. The lights are on as we head deeper and deeper into complete darkness. It seems that the further we travel the darker it gets. I have to admit, it’s a bit scary. I’m beginning to wonder if it was a wise choice to trust him with my Jeep, let alone my life.

 

“You aren’t going to kill me, are you?” I ask jokingly, but deep down a part of me is serious.

 

“If I was going to kill you, I wouldn’t tell you. Just trust me.”

 

So I do, I do trust him. He pulls into an open field and parks the Jeep. He turns off the engine and switches off the lights. I have to admit it’s fucking scary as shit out here. He steps out of the Jeep and walks around to open my door.

 

“You want me to step out into complete darkness? What if there are snakes or something?”

 

“I’ll protect you from them. Now come on, trust me.”

 

I take his hand and step out. My heart is pounding out of fear. We only take a couple of steps away from the Jeep. It’s cold out here, the only warmth I feel is his hand in mind.

 

“Look up,” he says.

 

I look up at the sky and see it, it’s glittering with stars.

 

“Now just breathe and soak in the peacefulness it brings to your soul,” he whispers.

 

I turn in his direction, wanting to see him, but darkness is all I see. I look up at the sky and soak in the peacefulness. The stars are mesmerizing. I can literally feel the fear and the ache in my chest being lifted. Another piece of my heart is claimed by the man standing next to me. I don’t know how long we’ve been standing here but I finally look in his direction. I feel his body turn toward me. I feel his warm breath on my cheek. I close my eyes but opened or closed the darkness is the same. I lean toward him, wanting to feel his lips on mine. I feel him pull away, but he doesn’t let go of my hand.

 

“Kiss me,” I beg. I want it so bad it hurts, but he doesn’t. He brings his hand to my face and runs his thumb across my lips.

 

“Please, kiss me,” I continue to beg.

About the Author

From a small child I’ve loved to lose myself in stories. I’m a firm believer that if heaven exists, it contains every novel ever written and has big squishy sofas to curl up on and read for all eternity.

My comedy play, The Magazine was performed at The Bush Theatre in London and my poetry has been published in several anthologies. However, what I really wanted to write were novels. With several unfinished manuscripts languishing in the depths of my computers hard drive, it was my discovery of erotic romance that led me to the realisation this is the genre I should be writing.

As English as they come, I couldn’t survive without tea. From Rachmaninov to Aerosmith my taste in music is best described as eclectic. And I make a mean chocolate cake.

I currently live in London, England, but dream of moving to the coast. A long held desire I really hope to fulfill one day.

I had an absolute blast writing Beguiled and In Too Deep and I hope you enjoy them, along with book 3 of The Frost Trilogy due to be released late summer 2015. I realise the colloquial dialogue and British idioms may be new to some readers, but Mia is English as am I and she speaks with a definitive English voice - I couldn’t have written my feisty, intelligent, well-read heroine any other way. I opened my mouth to speak, but, nothing came out. That was the first time in my entire life someone asked me to be their friend. Me. I’ve gone twenty-nine and a few years in my existence with acquaintances, buddies, friends with benefits, and the works. But, no one actually wanted to be my friend. My first book published was, ironically, not the first book I wrote. On Ellicott Street - a feisty, loving, cougar romance novella- holds the honor of being my first published book. Finless, released second, was the result of years of blood, sweat, and tears. It's a dark dance balancing between love, desire, and anger. My ideal reader allows me to take them to the edge of sanity, push limits, and support a sometimes simple protagonist just trying to get by in life. I have the same type characters in my explicit writing as well as my sweet or YA books-they just don't use the "F" word or engage in overt sexuality. It doesn't always take erotic descriptors of body parts/functions to get a point across. But, I will bring out the sexy when a mature story requires it. My biggest challenge yet comes from the day to day living with rheumatoid arthritis, and other assorted health invaders coming along with the dastardly package. Autoimmune diseases affect over 23 million folks in the US alone, I hope to raise awareness, as well as money for research so someday, we can all view these chronic diseases in a rear view mirror.
