Review of The Light In The Wound

Affected by her parents’ highly publicized divorce, Isabel grows up isolated and alone, with a resolve to never fall in love and repeat their mistakes.

When Jesse Cain enters her life, she falls hopelessly in love with him, and every sadness she’s ever felt is washed away by his intensity and passion. But people change as they grow up. Things can never stay the same forever.

Jesse and Isabel fight to stay together, determined to hold on to what they once had. Isabel wonders if a second love can ever be enough to make her forget her first.

 WOW.... WOW....
This is such a beautiful book! Christine takes you on a trip where you get to experience the emotional roller coaster of a first love that completely consumes you.

This is the story of Isabel and all the craziness that she has had to endure in her life. At a very young age, she knew what heartache was, when her parents separated, and it was very messy. She experienced many things that no child should have to go through. As I read the book, I wondered how this would influence her. Would it make her stronger, or tear her down?
Her grandparents help to raise her, while her sisters are sent to be with their paternal grandparents. Isabel is soon sent to a boarding school in Canada, far away from her sisters and her mother, because her grandparents believe it is what is best for her.
After she is gone for three long years, she rebels and comes back home. Shortly after she is home, she meets Jesse Cain.
The relationship that Jesse and Isabel have lasts seven long years. In that time, Isabel loses who she is and becomes what Jesse wants her to be. Through all of it, she loses the friends she has, except Betty and Alex. They are the people that are always there for her.

~ First love is only a little foolishness and a lot of curiosity. George Bernard Shaw ~

Because of all the turmoil that Isabel's mom has cause throughout her life, she vows not to become her mother... The woman who would bounce from husband to husband. But no matter what, she loves her mother, unconditionally.

~There is something to be said about a child's loyalty to her mother, no matter what the circumstance may be. There is unconditional love that forgives no matter how much hurt is thrown your way. There is a relentless hope that a person can change and a compelling belief that things can only get better~

As much as Isabel loves Jesse, he never makes her his top priority. He always puts his life's plan ahead of her happiness, and what she wants. Because of this, she starts to find comfort in the friendship of Alex. Alex has always loved her, but was just on the side. He is there for Isabel, and waits patiently for her. But Isabel keeps going back to Jesse.

One of my favorite quotes from the book ~Never accept a counteroffer. If they weren't good to you the first time, they've lost their chance to gain your loyalty and trust. What makes you think it will be better the next time?~ It is a perfect description for the triangle of Jesse~Isabel~Alex.

Can Isabel choose her happiness with Alex over her first love for Jesse?

As I read it, I had such mixed emotions about Jesse. He is such an intense character. You go from wanting to punch him in his face to wanting to kiss him and make him better. He will shatter your heart and then try to mend it.

~You can never replicate the feelings of a first love, Jesse. The passion, the elation, the sorrow, the pain. When it's the first time, everything is so much more magnified. you feel like it's the end of the world when you're not together.~

Alex is the strong character who is there to pick up the pieces. But is his love enough to take all of Isabel's heart?

Review of Denying Heaven and giveaway

Synopsis-The third book in the Room 103 series.
Bulk’s story
Love triangles… nasty things! Especially if one of the trio is dead.
Bulk fell in love at sixteen. Shona was his heart, his soul, the meaning of his life. Then she was killed… suddenly, horrifically and brutally. He never had the chance to say goodbye, never had the chance to tell her how much he loved her. How much he breathed for her and how much her pregnancy with his child energized his life to the point of a motivation he had never experienced before.
Seven long, lonely, painful and comatose years later, Spirit, a guitarist for River’s Ink, takes Bulk’s shit, wraps it up and sucks it dry. She takes his grief and kicks it to the curb. She fights against him, with him and for him. She wants him; she needs him and God, if he doesn’t need her right the hell back. She’s everything Shona was; fun, full of live and so utterly breath taking she steals his breath with every smile, every word that leaves her pretty lips and each naughty twinkle in her eye. But is Spirit what he actually needs to revive his life?
When Spirit’s secrets, a face from her past and her uncontrollable addiction to drugs and alcohol show their ugly heads, will Bulk shake his head and declare a final ‘No’ to life, or will he hold her tight, pull her close and fight her demons with her?
Will their fight for each other resurrect their deceased souls or will it invite the Devil to finally, once and for all, swallow them whole?
Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are sealed with scars. Khalil Gibran
This book contains explicit sex scenes, strong language, violence and substance abuse… oh, and one hell of an alpha male. It is recommended that tissues are on stand-by and a shoulder is available to cry on.

My Review-So I LOVE the Room 103 series. When I heard Bulk's book was next I got so excited! I mean come on??? It's freaking BULK! DH was kind enough to gift me an ARC for my honest review and seriously I screamed, yes screamed. Anyway here we go....... This book is NOT for everyone. It's not touchy feely and not all hearts and flowers I can assure you that. This book is RAW and will tear at your heart strings. This is a book where love is being fought and not accepted. Bulk suffers from the ghosts of his past and a promise he made long ago. He CAN'T love again because that in his eyes means he is betraying his wife. Spirit is also broken and shattered from her past. She CAN'T love for the fear of history repeating itself so instead of hurting she drinks the pain away or does the drugs to numb it. Honestly I hurt for Bulk but Spirit broke my heart. This book is a story of fighting for what you believe in, never giving up no matter the obstacle. Fighting ghosts and slaying habits and making a new future, a new beginning. Can two broken people fight for each other and make each other whole again???? Well I guess you gotta read to find out ;) I loved this book. It was beyond all my expectations and more. I laughed and cried so much my face hurt. Great job DH Sidebottom! You get 5 heartstopping stars from me!!!

Thankful by Amy Cox

Thankful Synopsis

This is not a fairy tale, it is life.  So please excuse the mess and enjoy the ride.
Warning:  Do not read Thankful until you have read Changing Fate.  The Broken Roads is a series and should be read in order.  Do not read Thankful if you can’t handle real life smacking you in the face, sheet igniting passion, and roller coaster emotions that turn you every way but loose.  You will need to be prepared for laughter, tears, holding your breath and sweltering heat.
The Broken Roads Series is about love in all forms, it is about family not being just about blood, and finding the strength to overcome your past to have a chance at a Happy Ever After in the future.
Zack Mitchell spent his entire life this far proclaiming to be the eternal bachelor.  No commitments, lots of T&A, and no regrets.  That is until he met Kate Davidson and she turned his world upside down.  While watching his cousin Ray fall in love with Kate’s sister, Rachel, Zack did the unthinkable, he fell for Kate…hard.
Kate Davidson admitted to loving Zack and being pregnant with his baby… then the very same day she left him and everything she had ever known behind her all to try to out run the demons in her past.  After watching her parents die at the hands of a hit and run driver the nightmares and the grief are more that she can take.  Letting Zack in again could be the final blow to shatter her for good.
What Kate and Zack feel for each other is intense and they spent a lot of time fighting it.  Now with Kate being pregnant and back home after running away four months ago, their feelings seem to be stronger than ever.  They both must face their pasts and come to terms with what is meant to be…but someone from the past is dead set against their happy ending.
Can Zack and Kate let go of the past and move on to the future together…Thankful for the bumps in their Broken Roads?

*Changing Fate Bonus Scene*
This takes place the night at the club when Zack and Kate double date with Ray and Rachel.  The scene is from Zack’s Point of View.

I could not have been more anxious to get the girls and get to the club tonight.  I rushed Ray all afternoon once I got to his Condo and he told me the plan.  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on my feisty little play date.  Kate…  Her name is Kate and did man did I really want to play twister with her.
There’s an idea…Twister bed sheets!
When she opened the door and I saw her standing there in that red dress and those shoes.  Shit!  I nearly blew my load right there in front of her parents and half the neighborhood.  I should have bought a fire extinguisher when I stopped to buy condoms.  This chick is going to make me burst into flames.
I sit in the chair beside her as Rachel and Ray head off to dance. “Play nice kids.” Ray teases.
OH you have no idea… Maybe if I ask real nice, she will let me play right here?  Yeah I’m an asshole I know, but I’m not thinking with the head that has a brain in it right now…
After a major junk adjustment and a long uncomfortable silence I smile at Kate. “So Babe, what does it take to get into your VIP lounge?” I ask as I run my fingers up her thigh.
A smile spreads across her face and she stands to her feet, coming to stand in front of me.  My mouth is watering at the thought of her straddling me right here, then she slams her heeled foot into my already throbbing crotch. “Shit! OW!” I yelp, as she twists her spiked heel apparently carving her name across my dick.  Her eyes meet mine and I can’t help but get lost in those deep browns.
“Listen here you arrogant bastard.  When I let you passed the velvet barrier, you won’t ever want to leave.  Chill with the cocky bullshit.  It doesn’t work on me.” Turning away she sits back down and crosses one leg over the other and I swear I die a little when her dress rides up almost revealing her ass.
“My God Sweetheart, I don’t think I have ever been this turned on in my entire life. “ I groan as her eyes rake over my body.
“I hate you.” She snaps.
“I want you to.” I reply, because I do I want her to hate me really hard!
Leaping into my lap, she slams her mouth down onto mine and my dick is banging on my zipper like the police at a crack house raid.  She yanks my hair as I slide my hands up, pulling her harder against me.  She pulls away just as quickly and I seriously wanna cry for my dick right now.  He is SO being lead on here, he doesn’t understand the game Kate and I are playing… Hell I don’t either but I am loving this shit!  No one challenges me, no one says no…ever.  I mean shit I am Zack Mitchell!
Kate settles back in her chair and completely unaffected reapplies her lip gloss.  I am panting and all I want to do is go caveman and drag her the hell out of here. “I want to dance Zack, I want to have a conversation, and maybe even breakfast.” She starts as she closes her bag and meets my eyes. “Then I will wreck you, ruin you and make you scream.” She says calmly and…yep my heart stopped.  MEDIC MAN DOWN!
“I’ll give you my first born and anything else you want except my car if you will come home with me right now.” I say dropping to my knees in front of her.
“I’m worth it…  You wait baby because you’ll give it all to me anyway and then some.” She deadpans as she runs her thumb across my lips.  Holy shit… I have no doubt.  What is happening to me?  I usually couldn’t give two shits.  Once they say no, I am done and moving on to the next fine piece of ass.  With Kate, I want to drag it out, and enjoy it.  I want to see where it goes with us, what we can have.
“Come on Kate, dance with me Sweetheart?” I beg.  Holy hell!  This chick has me begging and not for sex, she has me begging to dance?
She grins, knowing she has me and damn it she does.  She has me by the balls. “Only because you ask so nicely.” She replies.
After she talks to her sister and Ray reminds me once again not to be an asshole, they leave and Kate drags me to the dance floor, and somewhere along the way since I met her I think I lost the heart I didn’t think I had.
<3 Thanks for reading <3

Review of Permanent by Kim Carmichael

“Don’t you think people can change?” She moved closer, the constriction in her stomach subsiding a bit when he pulled her against him.
“I doubt it.” He kissed the top of her head.
“What if they work really hard on it?” She swallowed the lump in her throat.
“If they have to work so hard, maybe they shouldn’t try to change in the first place.”

Lindsay Stevens is all about change. She has uprooted her life in Ohio. She dyed her hair, bleached her teeth, went shopping for all new tailored suits and sky high heels and purchased brand new furniture for her new apartment in Hollywood.

You see, Lindsay is a nerd. As an accountant, she has a way with numbers. She always has. Lindsay is also highly attracted to the stereotypical bad boy who wants nothing from her except for her help when they are in a bind. And she is done with her life. So, she reinvents herself and moved to a prestigious corporate accounting firm in California.

And who should happen to fall into her life??? That's right!!! Her tattooed, bad-boy neighbor - Shane Elliot.

Shane is a renowned tattoo artist. He owns Permanent Tattoo - the tattoo parlor to the stars. Shane also happens to be in deep trouble with the IRS. Trouble that he has been avoiding like the plague.

So - after Shane saves Lindsay from killing herself by trying to unpack her house in her new stilettos - Lindsay owes him - and she agrees to help him with his "tax situation".

This story is stock full of humor and quirkiness. I loved it!! You would think that Shane, being the tattooed bad boy would automatically be some super Alpha Male - and you would be wrong!! He is so unbelievably sweet and charming. I loved him so much!

Lindsay grew on me. I'm not going to lie - I kinda wanted to smack her more than once. But I had to remind myself that she's been hurt before - the exact same way it seemed that Shane was using her. In the end - I loved her.

Be not fooled, my dear ones - though this is a story about Shane and Lindsay - the "secondary" characters are almost as vital to this story as Shane, himself. I loved, loved, loved Emily, Carson and especially Ivan!!

As Shane struggles with being enough for Lindsay, and she fights with her past - they have to learn to rely on each other and trust in the one solid thing that they have built together - their relationship.

But is love enough?? When one person is lying to herself about who she is and the other is changing into something he's not to please her?

Was it a desperately emotional book that changed my life? No.

Was is stuffed full of angst and tears? No.

Would I recommend it? Abso-freakin-lutely!

This book is fun! It's an easy, relaxing read that had me smiling a lot. I am looking so forward to the next book in this series!

*This can be read as a stand-alone*
4.5 Permanent Stars!!!!

Review:

Stories for Amanda is a book actually several short stories from many authors that I love and respect. These short stories were written in memory of the poor sweet girl who was bullied and mistreated and nobody stepped in or stepped up and she sadly lost her life and it sadly happens daily. I didn't quite know what to expect going in to this book. I will say that it was beyond my expectations. These stories touch you on such a deep level. They show you that one just one person can make a difference to another person. Bullying is something that will never stop because kids are hateful and as some adults are but we need to take a stand and speak to the girl that sits alone because she's labeled as a whore' or ask the young girl that got pregnant to come to the movies with you or accept the boy that came out of the closet as being gay. We cannot change the hearts of some people but we can chose not to sit back and know it's wrong. We can chose to not care what's said about us and make that stand against bullying. Who knows if each person were to be nice to one person that thinks they are alone then we could potentially help save many lives. These poor people that get bashed and bullied don't think they have that. They feel alone and we need to prove them wrong. These short stories portray that and you see what one lie can do to someone and also shows how a person can be changed just from one person standing up for them. This book is one I think everyone needs to read. Everyone needs to understand and see that we can make a difference. Are we gonna fit the mold or are we gonna make a stand?? Loved these little stories and honestly I just kept wanting more from each one they were so good I didn't want them to end. I have so much respect for the authors helping to take a stand against bullying. Read this book y'all. You won't regret it

Excerpts:
Excerpt #1:
Gwen shook her head again. This morning she was in a very reflective mood apparently. She quickly grabbed a boring light grey knee length business dress that had a high collar and tiny sleeves that barely covered her shoulders. She was just stepping into it when Cole walked into the closet.
“Hm. I think I might just never let you leave.” Cole said as he leaned against the door frame between the bedroom and the bathroom wearing a towel slung low around his hips. He had showered after Gwen. She hadn’t been able to sleep and got up early to start getting ready.
“What are you gonna do? Lock me in the closet? Heaven knows if I ate clothing I’d be able to survive a few years at least.” Gwen laughed gesturing at the large closet.
“No.” Cole said before taking the few steps it took to close the distance between them. He wrapped his arms around her waist before nuzzling his face in her neck. He took a deep breath and slowly let it out before speaking again, “I think I could wake up to see your face every day for the rest of my life. Just to find you standing in just a pair of sexy panties, thigh highs and a little bra in my closet every day, I think I just might give up everything I’ve worked so hard for in my life. I might never let you leave my life. ”
Excerpt#2:
“God, I hate how fucking sexy you look. All you have to do is just stand there and I’m panting for you.” Gwen said before smashing her lips to his again. He gently placed his hands on her hips but kissed her back with the same raging need. The elevator dinged and Gwen jumped back from him in case someone was waiting to get on. There wasn’t. It would’ve been obvious what they’d been doing anyway.
Cole yanked down on his jacket to straighten it before grabbing Gwen’s hand and pulling her quickly to the car. They both slipped into the back. As soon as the car door was closed, he pulled her into his lap, his hands in her hair as he kissed her hard.
“I’ve wanted to do that all day.” Cole pulled her back to his lips so he could kiss her again. Their tongues mingled and danced as Doug drove them back to Cole’s apartment. Cole pulled back when both of them were breathing hard. He gently cupped her face and rested his forehead against hers, his eyes closed. “We can’t keep kissing. I’m already struggling to wait and this really isn’t helping.”
Gwen gritted her teeth. She was so hot. Her panties were soaked and she wanted him so badly.
Excerpt#3:
“Can I get you something to drink or eat?” Their server approached the table, interrupting them.
“A couple glasses of Chardonnay would be great.” McKayla spoke while Gwen laughed softly into her neck.  The server moved off to get their drinks, not phased at all by them.
“Didn’t take long to get carried away. Guess it’s been a while since we’ve been out.” Gwen laughed again. McKayla just winked at her and kept her hand on Gwen’s knee.
Their drinks were delivered a few moments later. A young man entered the stage as the woman finished her set. He had a deep voice that was accompanied by someone on the piano.
“I like this song.” McKayla bent her head to speak softly into Gwen’s ear. Her tongue flicked out and tracked the outer edge of Gwen’s ear. McKayla’s hand was slowly sliding up Gwen’s inner thigh. Gwen separated her legs just barely. “Good girl. You enjoy the deep sexy sound of his voice.”
Gwen bit her bottom lip when McKayla’s finger brushed against her damp panties. Her fingers pressed against Gwen, sliding up and down against the material. Her fingers slipped under the thin material as McKayla nibbled on Gwen’s ear.
Excerpt #4:
“I thought you were no longer working as an escort.” Leanne used a louder than normal tone of voice. Gwen flinched and looked around to see if she had caught anyone’s attention.
“I’m not. I’m here with my boyfriend.” Gwen said using a much quieter tone once she saw no one appeared to be paying them any attention.
“Lucky you. Got what all of us want. Bagged one of the big boys.” Leanne sneered at her.
“I didn’t know him when I was living that lifestyle.” Gwen technically had, but she didn’t think it was really any of Leanne’s business. They’d never been close, but Gwen knew that many of the girls who escorted hoped to have one of the filthy rich men fall in love with them. Or at least be their sugar daddy who bought them expensive things. “I met him outside of escorting.”
“Mmm Hmm. Sure.” Leanne pressed her lips together and rolled her eyes before stalking off just as Cole approached.
Excerpt#5:
“I knew that tonight would be just us so I wanted it to be special.” Cole rubbed his hands up her arms to rest on her shoulders. “Now, let’s do something about the sticky mess that drink left behind.”
Cole bent down and scooped her up in his arms. Gwen let out a short laugh as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. He carried her into the bedroom. There were white rose petals scattered all over the bed and floor along with more candles lighting the room. Cole didn’t seem to notice though as he carried her into the bathroom. Again candles covered nearly every surface in the spacious bathroom. He set her gently down on the vanity chair before moving to turn on the bathwater and adding in some bubbles from a dispenser on the side of the tub. He turned to her with a soft smile on his handsome face as he took a slow step towards her.
“I think this will do.” His eyes never left Gwen’s as he slipped the coat off his shoulders then laid it on the floor next to the chair she was sitting on. He tugged on his tie, leaving it hanging around his neck before sinking to his knees in front of her. Lifting one of her feet, he kissed slowly down from her knee to her ankle while his fingers tenderly took off her shoe. Setting her foot on the ground, he repeated the same treatment to the other leg and shoe before setting the heels off to the side. “I might have a slight addiction to your heels, but tonight I want you as relaxed as possible.” Cole murmured as leaned up and planted a soft kiss on Gwen’s lips.

About The Author:

I'm a new self-published author who just got introduced to the writing world early 2013. My aunt suggested that I write a story because I'm an avid reader but I waved it off and left it alone. Well this year, a story came to me and I went with it. It took me a little bit but I finally got a story idea that worked and now I can't stop or control the characters/stories that keep popping up in my head.

I'm born and raised in Canada and I live with my very wonderful and supportive husband, Michael. We don't have any children (yet) unless you count our two cats. He's been my rock through this whole new experience for me. I couldn't have done it without him and my friends and family.

One of the many things I love about this new chapter in my life is that I'm learning constantly. It's never a dull moment and as long as one person likes my story, I am happy.

Excerpt:

Two years had passed since Sebastian Chelios had died. Two years since being told that Jose Alvarez was still out there. And two years since I was told I was pregnant.

Pregnant with Sebastian’s baby.

God, who knew that that would happen?

A result of my forgetfulness of taking the pill. But it was well worth it when I looked into the eyes of my baby. Sebastian’s baby. Our child.

I tried to forget. But the calendar on the wall beckoned like a tease, and my eyes darted to the dreaded numbers. My mind went back to those horrible couple of days.

It was like a bad horror movie in my mind. Jose kidnapping me. Sebastian showing up. Us both shot. The blur of the hospital. My lover. Dead. Doctors and nurses in my face. Then news of the pregnancy. My head whirled when I got sucked into my thoughts. Real, as if it was yesterday. Realizing I would have to raise a child on my own.

But now…every day I looked at Antonio and ached. His eyes had slipped from blue to brown, and he reminded me so much of Sebastian.

His father would never see him. Never know him.

Fresh tears filled my eyes but I shook them off. I headed to the front door and made sure it was locked. I looked out the window and noticed a big black car a couple of houses away. Relief fluttered through me. The Feds were watching. Protecting me and my son from Jose.

A scream came through the baby monitor on my counter.

I ran up the stairs in my small two bedroom house and headed right to my baby’s room. After throwing the door open, I stood there, panting, gripping my chest as my heart raced against my rib cage.

My son lay there, looking up at me from his crib, a big smile on his beautiful chubby face.

I sucked in a breath and tried to ease the thumping in my ears. “Hi, baby. You sure like giving your mama a heart attack, don’t you?”

He giggled. Yup, definitely Sebastian’s kid.
